My Daddy

Here is a picture of my mom and dad taken at their 50th Wedding Anniversary Celebration last year.
My dad has recently been diagnosed with an aggressive terminal illness. We would appreciate your prayers for my mom and dad as they face this.

Letters from a friend
One of my all time favorite people wrote us a letter the other week and I have been meaning to post the quote of John Newton that was enclosed.
"He has a sovereign right to do with us as He pleases; and if we consider what we are, surely we shall confess we have no reason to complain; and to those who seek him, His sovereignty is exercised in a way of grace. All shall work together for good; everything is needful that He sends; nothing can be needful that He withholds. Be content to bear the cross; others have borne it before you. You have need of patience; and if you ask, the Lord will give it: but there can be no settled peace till our will is in a measure subdued. Hide yourself under the shadow of His wings; rely upon His care and power; look upon Him as a physician who has graciously undertaken to heal your soul of the worst of sickness..... Yield to His prescriptions, and fight against every thought that would represent it as desirable to be permitted to choose for yourself. When you cannot see your way, be satisfied that He is your leader. When your spirit is overwhelmed within you, He knows your path; He will not leave you to sink. He has appointed seasons of refreshment, and you shall find He does not forget you. Above all, keep close to the throne of grace." -John Newton
This relationship is what I am compelled to and am thankful for. I am refreshed.

front porch thoughts
On Being pushed by Cilla
I like the way my niece thinks and sees things.
All those conversations on the front porch push me to grow
and keep moving ahead with anticipation of what He has for me.
The big topic last week that is haunting us this week as we stretch and grow through various trials are as follows...
“If you found out that God was unjust (which He isn’t, you know)
Would you still serve Him since He would still be God?”
Would you be able to serve and love God if he did something you didn’t like or didn’t understand?
Can you only serve a God who is loving and unconditional?
Even with all of your own faults?
Are you serving Him or You? Is your view of yourself humbled enough?
I was inspired further by her thoughts on her blog after recent learning experiences that we are both growing through...
"Thank goodness that my God is not unjust, unfair, unfaithful, unloyal,
dishonest, greedy, and manipulative like we can be. So yes, with
a hurting, betrayed heart and a feeble mind that still cannot
comprehend, I will serve my God with Joy. He is so faithful and I
love how He teaches me so gently. "
She then adds this from her readings in Daniel and it puts it all in perspective.
"His dominion is an eternal dominion;
his kingdom endures from generation to generation. All the
peoples of the earth are regarded as nothing. He does as he
pleases with the powers of heaven and the people of the earth. No
one can hold back his hand or say to him 'what have you
done?'...everything he does is right and all his ways are just.
And those who walk in pride he is able to humble."
Thank you Cilla.
Thank you for being here this summer.
I miss you when you are away, niece, sister, friend.
Thanks for laughing near me and at me too.

for Sem and Maggie
One day these struggles will be behind you.
Your load will feel lighter in some places and heavier in others
Those little burdens will tranform to show their blessings
(mostly those little ones running in circles)
Your Father will still take your load and give you His in exchange
Seek the constant exchanging of your burdens for His
With each passing day you are one step closer to where He is taking you
Being blessed by your smile through the struggle
Journeying alongside
One of my favorite stories from scripture is the story of Peter
asking to walk on the water to Jesus…
When he begins to take in everything around him
and starts to sink
Jesus reaches out his hand to save Peter.
His arms don’t stretch beyond his reach like some
stretch toy (mine was a Stretch Armstrong, with corn syrup for insides)
He is within Christ’s reach
Right there
Where he was supposed to be
Willing to step out of the boat
Willing to get soaked to be near his savior
Soaked in the blessing that comes through trial.
Pushed on the inside to move on the outside
and journeying within arms reach
