advice on homeschooling?

I am going to be homeschooling this year and would like some advice on choosing a language arts/ humanities curriculum for the 3rd grade. This is your opportunity to give me your two-cents worth. I may discard it or I may take it to heart. That is the beautiful thing about advice. But either way I would love the help. Please tell me what you have liked, hated, questioned... and why. Sound good?

9:30 pm Update on homeschooling prep day:

Well, my good friend Pam and I went to the CSTHEA Homeschool curriculum fair today and she was able to help me pick out some good stuff. I am probably using Beautiful Feet Books along with Learning Language Arts Through Literature. I purchased Singapore Math and some great spelling supplements. I have been encouraged to focus on the basics this year, reading writing and 'rithmatic. I came home at lunch, looked at what I had and went back to get a couple of peripherals from both the fair and Target (like finger paints, coloring books and paper for Xaverie). I will have to keep her busy too.
I am a bit overwhelmed but really excited to begin. I have also gotten some great advice from friends who are veteran homeschoolers.
Just before leaving, I ran into my old neighbor and friend, David Bird and got to visit with him for a while. We had a good time visiting while constantly having to step out of the way of all the people carrying out their displays. I always love seeing friend that let you pick up where you left off with them years ago.
All in all, an accomplished day. Now it is time to head back to my fun reading and my messy house.
